Fun Doggy Poems

Why own a dog?

Why own a dog? There's danger you know,
You can't own just one, the craving will grow.
There's no doubt they're addictive, wherein lies the danger,
While living with lots, you'll grow poorer and stranger.

One dog is so funny, and two are no trouble,
The third one is easy, the fourth one's a honey.
the fifth's delightful, the sixth one's a breeze,
You find you can live with a house full with ease.

So how 'bout another? Would you really dare?
They're really quite easy, but Lord, the hair.
With dogs on the sofa, and dogs on the bed,
And crates in the kitchen, it's no bother, you've said.
They're really no trouble, their manners are great.
What's just one more dog, and one more crate?

The sofa is hairy, the windows are crusty,
The floor is all footprints, the furniture is dusty,
The housekeeping suffers, but what do you care?
Who minds a few nose prints, and a little more hair?

So let's keep a puppy, you can always find room,
And a little more time for the dust cloth and broom.
There's hardly a limit to the dogs you can add,
The thought of a cutback sure makes you sad.

Each one is so special, so useful, so funny,
The Vet, the food bills grow larger, you owe money,
Your folks never visit, few friends come to stay,
Except other dog folks, who live the same way.

Your lawn has now died, and your shrubs are dead too,
But your weekends are busy, you're off with the crew.
There's dog food and vitamins, and training and shots,
And entries and motels which cost lots.

Is it worth it you wonder? Are you caught in a trap?
Then your favorite dog comes and climbs in your lap.
His look says your special, and you know that you will,
Keep all of the critters, in spite of the bill

How to make puppy pie.

Take one puppy, roll and play until lightly pampered, then add the
following ingredients.....

1 cup patience....
1 cup understanding....
1 pinch correction....
1 cup hard work....
2 cups praise and 1 1/2 cups fun... blend well.
Heat with warmth of your heart until raised or until puppy has
doubled in size. Mix with owner until consistency is such that owner and
puppy are one.

"Does Your Dog Own You?"

See how many of these statements apply to you and your dog.

*You believe every dog is a lap dog.

*If you are cold, you put a sweater on your dog.

*You have a picture of your dog in your wallet, but not one of your kids.

*You often claim that it was love at first sight with you and your dog.

*You have your dog talk to your friends on the phone.

*You can't fully enjoy yourself without your dog.

*No matter how large your bed is, it is not large enough for you and your dog(s).

*You spend more on clothes and food for your dog than you do for yourself.

*You have no reservations about kissing your dog on the lips, even when you know
where his lips have been.

*You believe it is your duty to talk to, pat, and even feed every dog in the neighborhood.
You know their names.

*You let the neighbor dog sleep over.

*You believe there is no such thing as a naughty dog.

*Your vet and grooming bills exceed your rent.

*When you need someone to talk to, your dog is your first choice.

*You sit on the floor if the dog got in the chair first.

*You talk to your dog when you are driving. He answers.

*Your dog taught you to fetch and roll over.

If...

If you can start the day without caffeine,
If you can get going without pep pills,
If you can always be cheerful, ignoring aches and pains,
If you can resist complaining and boring people with your troubles,
If you can eat the same food everyday and be grateful for it,
If you can understand when your loved ones are too busy to give you anytime,
If you can overlook it when those you love take it out on you when,
through no fault of yours, something goes wrong,
If you can take criticism and blame without resentment,
If you can ignore a friend's limited education and never correct him,
If you can resist treating a rich friend better than a poor friend,
If you can face the world without lies and deceit,
If you can conquer tension without medical help,
If you can relax without liquor,
If you can sleep without the aid of drugs,
If you can say honestly that deep in your heart
you have no prejudice against creed, color, religion or politics,

Then, my friend, you are almost as good as your dog!

Inner Strength

If you can start the day without caffeine or pep pills,
If you can be cheerful, ignoring aches and pains,
If you can resist complaining and boring people with your troubles,
If you can eat the same food  everyday and be grateful for it,
If you can understand when loved ones are too busy to give you time,
If you can overlook when people take things out on you when,
through no fault of your own, something goes wrong,
if you can take criticism and blame without resentment,
If you can face the world without lies and deceit,
If you can conquer tension without medical help,
If you can relax without liquor, If you can sleep without the aid of drugs,

Then...............you are probably a cat or a dog
